Let's Celebrate Ganesha Chaturthi in Eco Friendly Way

Lord Ganesha is the darling of the masses. Ganesha Chaturthi brings people of all religion, caste and creed together. Ganesha Chaturthi is celebrated with great devotion all over India. People bring home murtis (Idols) of Lord Ganesha and celebrate the festival by worshiping the Lord in a special way for a day and a half, 3 days, 5 days, 7 days or 11 days depending on the family tradition and commitment of each individual. On the last day of worship the idol is taken out in a colorful and musical procession to be immersed traditionally at a beach.

Like every year, Valmiki Foundation is celebrating Ganesha Chaturthi but this time in an Eco friendly way. Valmiki Foundation has organized clay Ganesha idols making workshop for our children of Valmiki Hriday on 9th September. It was a real fun for the children to put their fingers on the clay and produce beautiful idols of Lord Ganesha of 6 inches each under the guidance of clay modeler.

The aim was spreading the message that clay idols disperse easily in water compared to plaster of paris idols that lead to water pollution after immersion. Thousands of idols, big and small, are immersed in water bodies every year during the festival. Let's say no to idols made of chemical, Plaster of paris, c lay, plastic, thermocol (polystyrene). Opt for natural, biodegradable material so that after immersions (visarjan) it does not pollute water and surroundings.

The clay idols the children made at workshops are on display at Valmiki Hridaya, Children's home (Old Bowenpally). They can be bought and the cost is Rs. 300 each. Interested devotees can contact Mr. Naidu, coordinator at 9676392879.

The proceeds from the sale will be donated to Valmiki Foundation, an NGO working for needy children. "The initiative was taken to spread awareness on preventing pollution."

Wish you a Happy and a Blessed Ganesha Chaturthi 2015!

Library Launch on International Literacy Day (8th Sept) at Valmiki Hridaya, children's home. (Time: 4pm to 6 pm)

Valmiki Foundation is pleased to announce the launch of a library at Valmiki Hridaya, a Children's home on account of International Literacy Day (8th September).

In order to address education quality, the Valmiki Foundation is taking another initiative to provide quality educational opportunities for children of Valmiki Hridaya through a library setup with carefully crafted book collections.

When kids read, their brain cells are literally turned on, and existing links among brain cells are strengthened and new cell links are formed. Reading is also one of the best activities to provide the foundation language and literacy skills that a child needs to succeed. And let's not forget how reading aloud connects us -- reader and listener -- in a very intimate way. When we read aloud to kids, we send them this message: You are important. This, time is for you. Reading is an important part of a child's learning process. Reading is a way for children to make connections between what they already know and what they read about in books. These connections help children understand the world around them. In addition, through books, children are exposed to characters and cultures that they may not otherwise interact with in real life.

Books play pivotal role in life of a student. It acts as a gateway for him to know and be par at the ever changing world. Many times students from the poor section of our society doesn't have access to the finest reading material. Please come forward and donate books.
